Haier launches smart appliances in South Africa

China-based Haier, a top manufacturer of home appliances and consumer electronics worldwide, held its product launch on October 29, 2026, at the Summerplace venue in Sandton, north of Johannesburg. The event showcased Haier’s range of innovative, reliable, and smart home appliances aimed at creating a dynamic, comfortable, and pleasant home environment.
South Africa’s home appliance market is highly competitive, with established international and local brands serving consumers across various product categories and price segments. Haier’s senior management, local retail partners, brand ambassadors, and consumers gathered at the launch to celebrate a new chapter in Haier’s journey in South Africa.
Brand Direction and Future Plans
The event provided an opportunity for Haier to reaffirm its commitment to the South African market, share its global brand vision, and outline its long-term growth ambitions. The company emphasized its focus on delivering innovative technologies and high-quality products tailored to local consumer needs. Under the theme, “Global No.1 Brand. Innovation for Life. Technology for South Africa,” Haier highlighted its commitment to bringing world-class innovation and smarter home solutions to South African households.
Xinliang Sun, Haier South Africa chief executive, expressed optimism about the brand’s future in the country, stating that early indications suggest Haier will soon claim the number one spot in the home appliance sector. “Our focus is on the consumers in general but specifically the needs of local households,” he said, adding, “we are in this business to stay.” Sun’s confidence is based on Haier’s global leadership, as Euromonitor International ranked the brand number one for 17 consecutive years (2009-2025) in Global Major Appliance Brand Retail Volume.
Supporting Strong Strategic Partnerships
While Haier has a global footprint in the home appliance space, with a strong presence in countries such as India, Pakistan, and Egypt, it only entered the South African market in February 2026. The brand prepared the ground as early as the end of 2024 by acquiring Kwikot, the country’s premier geyser manufacturer, from Electrolux for R2.45 billion. According to Sun, Haier’s formal entry into the local market was followed by consistent product development, robust strategic partnerships with local retailers, and regional warehouses.
Since entering the South African market, Haier has focused on building local brand awareness, expanding its retail presence, and introducing innovative products tailored to local household needs. Sun highlighted key focus areas behind the company’s success: strong market performance, premium products, investment in logistics, efficient after-sales customer service, and team support focused on localization and customer development.

Engaging Consumers Through Football
Beyond its appliance market dominance, Haier leverages football to enhance its global profile and engage consumers. The company has partnered with major football clubs and secured a sponsorship deal as a Global Partner of the UEFA Champions League starting in the 2027/28 season.
