Some sports activities, or individual competitions inside a sport, retain a policy of allowing solely novice sport. The Olympic Games started with a precept of amateur competition with those who practised a sport professionally considered Health & Fittnes to have an unfair benefit over those that practised it merely as a hobby. From 1971, Olympic athletes have been allowed to receive compensation and sponsorship, and from 1986, the IOC decided to make all professional athletes eligible for the Olympics, with the exceptions of boxing, and wrestling.
